UPDATE: Police: No shots fired from Walnut Street Bridge

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)—The Chattanooga Police Department released more details on an incident in the North Shore area over the weekend.

Sergeant Jerri Weary says CPD officers were trying to break up a large of crowd of juveniles clogging the North Shore, Walnut Street Bridge and surrounding areas.

Weary tells Channel 3 a call of shots fired from the Walnut Street Bridge was received while officers were clearing the juveniles, but no shell casings or victims were found.

Hamilton County 911 records reveal at least six different callers reported shots fired around 11:30 Saturday night, one caller says, "It was clearly gunshots, not fireworks. "

Another told the dispatcher, "I'm downtown right off the walking bridge and there's been 12 gunshots, and a lot of screams by Coolidge Park."

A 17-year-old male was taken into custody, but Weary says the arrest had nothing to do with the report of shots fired.

Some witnesses told police they saw children playing with fireworks, which is believed to be the reason for the call.

Weary says police are reviewing surveillance video, but the call is baseless until new evidence is or a victim is located.
