CLEVELAND, BRADLEY COUNTY (WRCB) – Deputies are investigating the suspicious death of a Bradley County woman.
Elizabeth Carney was found dead in her 6th Street home late Tuesday night.
Carney's daughter tells Channel 3 her 40-year-old mother was found wrapped in a blanket in a closet. The daughter had not heard from her mother in three days.
Investigators are now searching for Carney's husband of two months, 41-year-old David Daugherty.
Police say over 20 years ago, Daugherty killed another man named Larry McKinney.
Court records show Daugherty tried to sell McKinney a stolen pistol, which would eventually be the murder weapon.
McKinney, who ran a used car lot, told Daugherty several times to leave that day.
Daugherty would later return and shoot McKinney in the back.
A warrant charging Daugherty with first degree murder was issued by the General Sessions Court of Bradley County.
Daugherty is described as 5'8", 180 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair or possibly has a shaved head. He was last seen driving a 1995 Mercury Villager van with gold trim and a Tennessee license tag reading: 373 TLP.
Carney is a mother of four grown children, her son is currently serving in Iraq.
At this time no cause of death has been given. Carney's body has been taken to Knoxville for autopsy.
