Police seek bank robbery suspect
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Police are asking for help identifying a bank robber who has been featured on Crime Stoppers for two different robberies.
The first robbery occurred on April 26, 2011, around 11:30 a.m. when an unknown suspect entered the SunTrust Bank at 1969 Northpoint Blvd armed with a handgun.
Police say the suspect pointed the handgun at numerous employees, jumped the counter, and emptied a money drawer. The suspect then fled on foot with over $2000 cash.
The suspect in the SunTrust robbery was described as being 6'03 and around 240 or more pounds. He was said to have worn a black ski mask, khaki pants, a long sleeve blue shirt with white horizontal stripes on it, a sleeveless jacket (which was unzipped) and a pair of what appeared to be gardening gloves.
The second robbery occurred on May 23, 2011, around 9:30 a.m. at the Regions Bank at 3894 Hixson Pike.
Police says the entered the bank armed with a handgun and demanded money. He ordered all the customers and employees into the vault and closed the door before fleeing the area with an undetermined amount of money.
The robber in the Regions robbery was described as a black male, 6'04, between 240 - 250 lbs. He was said to have worn large sunglasses, a dark olive colored hoodie, and a white "allergy" type mask.
Investigators now believe the same suspect committed both robberies.
