Heat warnings posted across Tennessee Valley, South

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Above normal temperatures combined with high humidity will produce  uncomfortable conditions yet again across much of the Tennessee Valley Wednesday.

Afternoon highs in the valleys will peak in the mid 90s with heat index values in the low 100s.

This is below Heat Advisory criteria, so no advisory has been issued for any part of the Channel 3 viewing area.

However, taking precautions is still important for those expecting to spend time outdoors, especially in the afternoon.

Please stay safe! Here are some tips:

- Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
- When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
- Check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Absolutely do not leave children or pets unattended in vehicles!
- To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
- Heat stroke is an emergency...CALL 911.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will bring slight relief to some areas over the next few days. Highs temperatures by Friday may "cool" to the low 90s, but only for a short time.

We have several ways to keep you informed. You can track pop-up showers and zoom right to your neighborhood on the iRadar.
