Police: Thief rams store with car

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Police officers see it all; death, destruction and drama but according to Detective Dale Taylor this theft takes the cake.

"This was definitely unique," says Chattanooga Police Detective Dale Taylor. "This one rings up with kids who say the darndest things, the things humans do, the darndest things."

Surveillance video from a retail shop on Highway 58, Senegal Fashions, shows a criminal using his car to open the locked door, with bars. It's too late or early for customers.

"This is him actually rams the front of the business to get the door and the bars outta the way and get the clothing and back out," says Detective Taylor.

Wondering what he's after?

"He got an arm load of shorts and it's valued at 100 dollars total," says Detective Taylor.

Thousands of dollars in damages, a broken door and shattered glass, all for about $100 in shorts.

"It's desperate stuff, kinda comical watching him ram the wall with a car and the end result he got what he wanted absolutely devastating to the owner," says Detective Taylor.

The doors are close and business is not as usual.

"[The owner] is upset and one of the big things is he recognizes the individual but can't give me a name. That tells me he has been in there shopping before," says Det. Taylor.

The suspect is facing charges of burglary and vandalism. If you recognize the suspect, call police at 698-2525.
