Police ID driver, passenger in Sunday crash
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Police have identified the two men injured in a Sunday morning crash on Brainerd Road.
Officers say Marvin J. Alvarez and Juan G. Rangel were both injured in the crash Sunday.
Alvarez remains in critical condition after his arm was severed during the crash. Doctors say Rangel was treated for major lacerations to his face.
Chattanooga Police spokesperson Sergeant Jerri Weary says the Ford Crown Victoria Alvarez was driving was reportedly traveling east at a high rate of speed when the he crossed the center lane and hit the trailer of a semi. Rangel was a passenger in the car.
Weary says the cause is still under investigation, but it is believed speed and alcohol were contributing factors.
Charges against Alvarez are pending further investigation of the crash.
