Soddy Daisy police chief returning from Middle East
SODDY DAISY, HAMILTON COUNTY (WRCB) – Soddy Daisy's Chief of Police is returning home after a tour of duty in the Middle East.
Chief Phil Hamrick was deployed with the Navy Reserves last August. He will return to the Tennessee Valley Wednesday.
Chief Hamrick is expected to arrive at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport around 12:50 p.m.
Hamrick and his wife have a 2-year-old daughter and a son who is also in the Armed Forces.
Hamrick says he looks forward to returning home, but wouldn't miss an opportunity to serve his country.
"I can serve here, I can serve over there, it's just a matter of serving my country and my community," Hamrick told Eyewitness News before his deployment.
Lieutenant Jeff Gann served as interim police chief while Hamrick was away. Chief Hamrick will resume his duties at the SDPD when he returns.
