Man stops burglary attempt; suspect also charged with meth

NIOTA, MCMINN COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- McMinn County deputies say they've arrested a man who planned to break into a Niota home.

The homeowner returned to his house to find a white truck in his driveway, Saturday.

The homeowner blocked the truck's exit and was almost run over as the driver of the truck attempted to flee.

The driver of the truck, also threw a glass bottle, later identified as a gasser bottle used in the manufacture of meth, and struck the homeowner in the face, according to the Sheriff's Department report.

According to the report, following the altercation the subject ran off into the woods on foot before deputies arrived.

Authorities found Joseph Murphy's wallet inside the truck, as well as a meth lab.

Murphy, 29, of Oak Ridge, has been charged with aggravated burglary and drug possession, among other charges.
