Hamilton County government plans to lay off 38
CHATTANOOGA (TIMES FREE PRESS) - Hamilton County has announced it will lay off 38 as it implements a budget that is $13.7 million less than last year's.
Supported agencies saw a cut of $7.2 million. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department received a cut nearly $1 million and Erlanger hospital's reduction was $1.5 million.
The county will have 58 positions that are unfilled.
Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger said he will ask for a 4-week severance package for those laid off rather than one of two weeks.
