Slain officer named 'Officer of the Year'
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – A fallen Chattanooga police sergeant was honored as Officer of the Year Tuesday.
The Exchange Club presented the award to Sergeant Tim Chapin's parents.
Chapin was killed in April, responding to an armed robbery on Brainerd Road.
His father says it's nice gesture.
And, it's even better to know so many people cared about what his son did.
"It's more important to me though to know that the people who live in the area where he patrolled loved him, and appreciated him, and respected him for what he did," says Ralph Chapin, Sergeant Chapin's father.
Officer Lorin Johnston was injured during the shootout.
The Exchange Club presented him with the Blue and Gold Award.
