THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) - William Zalatoris won the U.S. Junior Amateur on Saturday, beating Davis Riley 5 and 3 in the 36-hole final at The Club at Carlton Woods. The 17-year-old Zalatoris, from Plano, holed out from 119 yards for eagle on the 32nd hole - the par-4 14th on the Nicklaus Course - to take a 4-up lead and ended the match with a par win on the 33rd hole.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger knows only too well the intensity of the Alabama-LSU rivalry. Mettenberger was sucker-punched last weekend by an Alabama fan while at a bar with fellow rookie Taylor Lewan. A man came up to him and said, "Roll Tide." Mow, Mettenberger keeps hearing "Roll Tide" from teammates.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Ty Dillon pulled away from Kyle Busch down the stretch Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to win for the first time in the Nationwide Series. Dillon passed Busch off the final restart with 25 laps and held on for his first victory in 31 career starts in NASCAR's second-tier series.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Kevin Harvick has won the pole for the Brickyard 400 with a dominating qualifying run at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Harvick was fastest in all three sessions of NASCAR's knockout qualifying, and bested Sprint Cup Series points leader Jeff Gordon for the top starting spot in Sunday's race. Harvick turned a lap at 188.470 mph in the final round of Saturday qualifying to put his Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet on the front row. Gordon was second at 187.770.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons need new leadership on defense, and coach Mike Smith says second-year cornerbacks Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford fit the job description perfectly. Coming off a 4-12 season that ended with their defense ranked last in third-down efficiency, second-worst against the run and third-fewest in sacks, the Falcons still have unfulfilled leadership roles at several positions.
