PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jason Heyward and Andrelton Simmons homered to begin a six-run first inning, and the Atlanta Braves beat the sliding Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 Monday night for their fourth consecutive victory. The early outburst was enough for Ervin Santana, who allowed three solo homers among nine hits in 5 1-3 innings.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons have shifted rookie Jake Matthews to left tackle after a season-ending injury to Sam Baker. Matthews moved over from right tackle as the Falcons returned to practice Monday. Former starter Lamar Holmes, who had been listed as Baker's backup, moved into Matthews former spot on the right side.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn's backup quarterback predicts Nick Marshall will win the Heisman Trophy this season. Jeremy Johnson expresses much less certainty over who will start the opening game against Arkansas since Marshall is expected to begin the season on the bench as punishment.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Ernie Cope will crew chief Chase Elliott next season at JR Motorsports. Cope will replace Greg Ives at the end of the season. Ives is moving from JRM to Hendrick Motorsports to crew chief Dale Earnhardt Jr. Cope has been crew chief for JRM's part-time No. 5 Chevrolet.
