CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Police are investigating an overnight shooting, but say they are getting little help from the victim.

Officers say the victim in the case, 23-year-old Robert Smith, gave police several different accounts of the shooting. Investigators say none of Smith's accounts matched witness statements.

The initial report came into dispatch around 10:00 p.m. of a man running down 27th Street with a gunshot wound.

Officers found Smith after he arrived at the emergency room of Erlanger Medical Center.

Police say Smith was in the area of 27th Street and 4th Avenue at the time of the shooting, but have found little evidence.

Smith was treated for a gunshot wound to the left bicep and released.

Officers say the investigation is still open.
