Former Dunlap utility worker accused of theft

Posted: Updated:

DUNLAP, Tenn. (AP) - A former utility district office manager in Dunlap has been arrested after being accused of stealing more than $32,000 of ratepayer money.

A Sequatchie grand jury indicted Charlotte Turner last week with one count of theft of more than $10,000.

Authorities say Turner stole the money while working as a bookkeeper and office manager for the Cagle-Fredonia Utility District. The alleged theft was uncovered by an investigation by the state comptroller's Division of Municipal Audit.

The comptroller's office says auditors determined that she took cash collections that were supposed to be deposited into the bank.
