RAINSVILLE, AL. (AP) - A female bicyclist has died after being struck by a car Monday while participating in an 81-day bike ride to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.

The woman's name has not been released. DeKalb County Coroner Tom Wilson said the accident occurred around 1:30 Monday afternoon.

The "Bike and Build" group started the 4,134-mile ride to Chico, Calif. began May 25 in Charleston, S.C.

The "Bike and Build" group sponsors cross-country rides for students and young adults to raise money for affordable housing projects.

A spokesperson for "Bike and Build" says the group is still gathering information about the accident.

The accident occurred at the top of Sand Mountain, inside Rainsville. The investigation is ongoing and Rainsville Police are still on the scene.
