Huntsville mayor announces clean energy initiative
HUNTSVILLE, AL. (AP) - Huntsville's mayor has announced a new program that he hopes will make the north Alabama city a leader in clean energy.
The Huntsville Times reports that Mayor Tommy Battle on Friday announced the "Energy Huntsville Initiative." He says it will take advantage of the city's engineering, logistics and computer modeling knowledge to develop sustainable energy projects. He said the initiative ultimately will create new jobs as well.
The new effort brings together more than 30 businesses, nonprofits and government agencies across North Alabama and southern Tennessee. The group began meeting about six months ago.
The initiative is being led by Dale Jobes, vice president of government solutions for Magnolia River, an energy consulting firm with offices in Huntsville, Hartselle and Birmingham.
