Tenn. eases requirements for search warrants

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Law enforcement agencies in Tennessee may have an easier time in obtaining search warrants under a new law that prosecutors say will make the process more flexible.

The law allows more room for errors in warrants in criminal cases, a move that concerns defense attorneys.

Jeff Henry, executive director of the Tennessee District Public Defenders Conference, said the new law means there is "less recognition of individual rights."

Nashville District Attorney Tony Johnson told The Tennessean said the measure brings "a little bit more common-sense approach" to warrants.

Lawmakers around the country are loosening and sometimes eliminating requirements for search warrants.
