CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – A police cruiser has collided with a prison transport van, sending three to the hospital.
Eyewitness News is on the scene of a collision between a Chattanooga Police cruiser and a Federal prison transport van at the corner of Stein Drive and John Douglas Drive.
According to investigating officers, a prisoner transport van carrying two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents and one prisoner was struck by a Chattanooga Police patrol unit.
The prison van rolled over in the crash.
Police say all three occupants of the van were transported to a local hospital as a precaution due to the roll over however their injuries are believed to be minor. The Chattanooga Police Officer was not injured in the incident.
Officers flooded the scene, directing traffic while wrecker crews worked to get the truck back on its wheels.
The front windshield of the van, crushed, a navigational system still attached to the dashboard.
The cruiser's front end looks worse than the extent of the officer injuries.
We're told the officer is ok, but what happens to his job? Officer Joe Warren said, "Depending on the nature of the crash and his driving history, it can be up to termination."
The federal agents and the inmate are recovering at the hospital.
The Chattanooga officer was not hurt.
