Hamilton County Sheriff's Office warns of FEMA scams

Posted: Updated:

HAMILTON COUNTY, TN. (WRCB)-- The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office looks to remind storm victims of potential FEMA scams after one was reported in Memphis.

According to sheriff's spokesperson Janice Atkinson, the Memphis victim was approached by someone posing as a FEMA employee seeking personal information.

Atkinson says nothing of this nature has been reported in Hamilton County, but it is important that residents be aware and contact law enforcement with any concerns or problems.

Legitimate FEMA employees only visit residents who have made appointments and never ask for personal information.

Those who visit homes unannounced, claiming to be with FEMA, are most likely running a scam.
