Ringgold: Rhea McClanahan

RINGGOLD, CATOOSA COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -- Rhea Garrett McClanahan of Ringgold died Wednesday, April 28, 2011. He was 86.

He had been a resident of Ringgold for over 50 years and was a member of Ringgold United Methodist Church. Mr. McClanahan was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp, serving in many of the theatres of the Pacific Campaign in World War II.

He received his masters degree from MTSU and had been a science teacher and also had been a principal of several schools before retiring as principal of Tiger Creek Elementary School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hattie Reese McClanahan; wife, Martha Gene Combs McClanahan; and sisters, Ruby, Pearl and Opal.

Survivors include daughters, Melba (Steven) Weese of Canton, Vida Rush of Tunnel Hill; brothers-in-law, William J. Combs of Chattanooga, Tenn., John B. Combs of Tallapoosa; grandchildren, Dylan Rush, Will Rush, and Rachel Weese.
