CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – A new report from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Hamilton County ranks as one of the highest counties for human sex trafficking in the state.

The TBI report indicates that during the 24 months of the study, Hamilton County reported more than 100 cases of adult human sex trafficking. During the same time period, Hamilton County reported between 26 and 50 cases of child sex trafficking.

The TBI says the average age of entry into the business of sex trafficking is 13-years-old and that one in four a runaway children is approached for commercial sexual exploitation within 48 hours of running away.

The study also notes that nearly 79% of the law enforcement agencies in Tennessee surveyed say they are not adequately trained to handle sex trafficking cases.
