Livelines: Women's Health Care Issues

Hollywood stars like Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman are fueling the rise older first time moms, but new research shows these mothers have an increased risk of complications during pregnancy.

The Israeli study tracked data on mothers aged 45 to 65 years old who were expecting their first child.
Eight out of ten experienced health problems. Researchers say there were risks for the babies as well.
Nearly all of the babies were delivered by C-section.
Doctor Kirk Brody was our guest this morning.
Dr. Brody says with more women focusing on their education and career, he is seeing more patients who have waited later in life to start a family.
But there are some health risks for the moms such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia which can be very dangerous.
As for the babies, the study showed that one third were born prematurely and two-thirds weighed less than five and a half pounds.
