Deputies investigate brutal assault

SODDY DAISY, HAMILTON COUNTY (WRCB) – Deputies in Hamilton County are investigating a brutal attack at a home.

The incident happened on Collins Road in Soddy Daisy.

According to police reports, John Altenhoff opened his front door to a man in a mask claiming to be a police officer.

When Altenhoff asked for identification, the suspect attacked him, beating him in the head with a nightstick, according to deputies.

As the fight between Altenhoff and the attacker moved into the front yard, the attacker called to a second suspect who fired gun at Altenhoff.

Altenhoff told deputies he recognized the attacker with the gun as James Jeffery Davis, Jr.

A warrant was taken out against Davis and he is currently being held by deputies in Catoosa County, Georgia. He is awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

Davis is facing attempted first degree murder charges.

Investigators are still looking for the masked assailant.
