Weather could threaten GA peaches, blueberries

ATLANTA (AP) - Experts say Georgia's weather this year could hurt two key crops - blueberries and peaches.

State Climatologist David Stooksbury says the chilly winter has given both adequate cold-weather time to develop.

Stooksbury says the threat now is that extended warm weather will cause the plants to bloom, putting them at risk of being killed by a late winter or early spring freeze.

He tells WSB-TV that if the plants bloom early, there's a greater probability they will be harmed by a freeze.
