UPDATE: 2 students found dead in Walker Co. cave

WALKER COUNTY, GA. (WRCB)-- Walker County investigators confirm they have found two people dead in Ellison's Cave on Pigeon Mountain.

Both were University of Florida students.

David Ashburn, Director of Walker County Emergency Management Agency, tells Channel 3 both victims are male.

The two young men were on a group repelling trip with several other students.

Ashburn says trouble started when one of the victims became tangled in a rope. The second victim lowered himself to try to help. Neither one came back up.

The pair was not dressed for cold weather. Ashburn believes hypothermia may have been a factor.

The two victims reportedly know the area. They had been to Ellison's Cave before.

Several agencies are still on the scene.

Ellison Cave is west of LaFayette, off Highway 193.
