DECATUR, MEIGS COUNTY (WRCB) – Meigs County Schools will be closed Friday due to illness.

According to Superintendent Don Roberts, absentee rates at the schools reached 20 percent Thursday.

Roberts says students, teachers, staff, even bus drivers have reported being sick.

Cleaning crews will be sent into the schools Friday to disinfect the classrooms and busses.

Superintendent Roberts says one local doctor reported seeing more patients on Monday and Tuesday than at any point in his 15 year career. The doctor said he is seeing patients that had received the flu shot earlier this year.

The school district had 10 stockpile days to be used for snow, illness or other reasons. After Friday, Meigs County will have 3 days left.
