CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Chattanooga police detectives are having a difficult time solving crime because the victim lied about what happened and tried to cover it up for several hour.
According to a news release emailed to Channel 3 Eyewitness News on Sunday night, CPD responded to T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital around 9:30 a.m. on reports of a 15-year-old shot in the left upper leg.
At first the victim told officers he was shot in a drivey-by shooting by someone he did not know on East 16th Street. Officer went to the house and established a crime scene.
While investigating the scene, officers leraned there was a party there Saturday night. In fact, officers were dispatched there around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when someone thought they heard gunshots. When officers got to the house several people were leaving but no one admitted to calling police. No one said they needed help and officers noticed nothing unusual.
It was not until Sunday that officers learned the 15-year-old and another juvenile pulled guns on one another and began shooting.
Officers say the victim lied and concealed the shooting for more than 10 hours. The teenager was treated and released from the hospital.
