CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- Did you know that February 5th is a holiday? Well, it's not a widely recognized holiday, but it's National Weatherperson's Day!
The day marks the birth of Boston-born physician and scientist John Jeffries who lived from 1744-1819. He is credited with being the first weather observer in the United States and began keeping records in Boston in 1774. He also took weather observations in a balloon over London in 1784.
This is a day to recognize those who provide your weather observations, forecasts, and warning services in order to keep you informed and safe no matter what the weather! This of course includes your local TV meteorologists.
