"Big Hearts" is more than a title for makeover project

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The local project team has selected "Big Hearts Wear Hard Hats" as the official motto for the project that will deliver a new home to a family on the ABC network's show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

It turns out that the word "heart" literally has a special significance to one of the builders. Channel 3 has learned that the local project team wants to leverage their "Big Hearts" initiative to shed some light on the American Heart Association's mission.

One of the local builders, Craig Smith, lost his father to a heart attack which was later attributed to 100% blockage. That could have been prevented had he been screened. Since the untimely death, several members of Craig's family have been screened and problems were corrected.

This is an opportunity near and dear to Craig's heart. The American Heart Association will be at Thursday's pep rally and at the build site with information on how the community can get their heart health checked.

According to Beth Johnson of KMT Creative, "When KMT was brought into this endeavor by Vision Homes, we felt it was necessary to give the project its own personality for the community to rally around and support. We wanted everyone to feel like they are part of this exciting project!"

"Ultimately, we hope the identity will let the world know what Big Hearts the Chattanooga community has as we not only change this family's life forever, but we reach out to our neighbors, as well."

So when then local organizers selected "Big Hearts" as a title, it has extra meaning. Here's a link to Channel 3's "Big Hearts" page with information for volunteers. Click here for a link to the American Heart Association.
