BRADLEY COUNTY, TN. (WRCB)-- The owner of a Bradley County flea market is facing theft charges, after police say he attempted to sell stolen property.

A spokesperson for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office tells Eyewitness News that Howard Thompson has been under investigation since December, after a traffic stop revealed stolen property intended for Thompson.

Thompson was indicted by the Grand Jury in January on charges of attempted theft over $1,000 and false report.

He turned himself in Friday and was released following booking.

Thompson did release a statement to Eyewitness News stating "I am truly sorry for any act of mine which would cause people to criticize anyone in the performance of their duties and responsibilities."  The statement goes on to read "All I can and will do is cooperate and do the right thing".

Thompson is also a County Commissioner.
