CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- A man is stabbed while protecting his four-year-old during a dispute over a library sleeping spot.

The incident happened Thursday night around 7:30 on Broad Street.

Police say 42-year-old Maurice Moore pulled a knife and a can of mace, after he was told by Jason Belcher he could not sleep near the library steps.

Moore began spraying the mace in the direction of a stroller, belonging to the daughter 26-year-old David Hartman.

As Hartman stepped in to protect his baby, Moore stabbed him in the chest, and then took off toward City Hall.

Police later located Moore and charged him with aggravated assault.

Hartman was taken to Erlanger and is listed in stable condition.
