LAFAYETTE, GA (WRCB)-

Here is an announcement from Walker County Schools:

All schools in the Walker County School District have built in additional daily instructional time for students well above the minimum required by the Georgia Department of Education.  Based on the additional time built into school schedules, no makeup days would be required for students at this time.

However, out of an abundance of concern for students preparing for state exams in the spring, the Walker County School District announces the following changes to the school calendar for students and staff:

February 21 – formerly Presidents' Day Holiday becomes a student makeup day for all students and staff.

March 11 – formerly a student holiday and staff workday becomes a student makeup day.  All students report to school.

Spring Break, April 4-8, will not be utilized for student or staff make up days.  Additional makeup day schedules for employees will be announced.

The district also announced plans to begin the start of school for the 2011-12 year on September 1st, pending approval from the Governor and the State Department of Education.
