CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Progress in economic recovery is debatable, but in Tennessee, some things are staying the same when it comes to the job market.

The state's unemployment rate for December held steady at 9.4 percent.

That number is identical to November 2010.

Tennessee is neck-in-neck with the national unemployment rate which is now down to 9.4 percent, down from 9.8 last November.

In Georgia's unemployment numbers tell a much more serious story.

State labor officials say the state rate rose to 10.2 percent in December, up two-tenths of a percentage point from November.

But, we should note, this time last year the unemployment rate was 10.3 in Georgia.

Statewide, nearly 76,000 laid-off Georgians filed initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits, an increase of 11.7 percent from November.
