CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - A local building team has landed the job of a lifetime building a new house for a deserving local family. Their work will be shown the nation on ABC's show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

The men behind Vision Homes, the build team, are Craig Smith and Jason Willard.

According to the biography on the company's web site, Smith decided in 2003 it was time to start his own business after working for homebuilders in Cincinnati, Atlanta, Chattanooga, and other cities.

Craig Smith's interest in home building began at a very early age in Springfield, Ohio. His inspiration was a set of Lincoln Logs. That early experience led to both a formal and informal education. From there, he spent more than a decade working with large, well-known companies in Ohio, Georgia and Tennessee, like Ryland Homes and Signature Land Company.

He spent time gathering both building and client experience. It was then he began to develop his building philosophy and vision. One of the keys was listening. Listening to what clients were looking for in a home. One thing that stuck with him was "no surprises." It was all about taking a client's vision and his and bringing the two together in a way that resulted in what that client had always dreamed of.

Craig oversees the project from ground breaking until the last item on the punch list is completed. He is the company's construction manager and has supervised and overseen more than 50 residential construction projects in the Southeast. One of his greatest passions is serving on the Board of Deacons at his church.

Jason Willard was born in Inverness, Florida but grew up in Signal Mountain. The concept of home has always been a constant in Jason's life.  From helping his father remodel house after house, he was able to see the excitement and satisfaction in eyes of many families as they were handed the keys to their new home.  The expectation of contributing to family business and projects instilled values in Jason that are central to his core as a businessman today: dedication, loyalty and the importance of honoring commitments.

Jason graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Biology.  From there he created a full service landscaping company, which over the years, grew into a multifaceted construction company specializing in clearing, grading, road construction, utility infrastructure, home foundation installation as well as Wetland construction and restoration for the Federal Government.  His landscaping company, Bluestem Landscaping and Design, was recently honored as one of twelve national finalists in Caterpillar's annual Contractor of the Year publication.  From initial groundbreaking to putting the final touches on the landscape, Jason's company contributed to countless Vision homes.  In 2009 the contractor's hat came off and Jason became a partner in the Vision Home family.

Jason continues to oversee the earthwork components relating to home construction.  Having so many critical aspects of the construction project in-house serves to streamline the bidding process, improves schedule and increases accountability on all levels.  Jason's dedication to work is unparalleled to his dedication to his family.  As an avid hunter and fisherman, he spends as much time as possible outdoors with his wife and new daughter.
