CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave approval to Chattem's parent company to sell Allegra allergy medication without a prescription.
The Allegra family of products are expected to be available over the counter in March.
Chattem makes 20 plus other brands, including Gold Bond Powder, Act mouthwash and Selsun Blue shampoo.
Chattem landed the Allegra launch after the company was purchased in 2010 by a French pharmaceutical company, Sanofi-Aventis. Sanofi-Aventis' CEO has said that Chattem will become the U.S. headquarters for the French company's over-the-counter operations.
