DALTON, WHITFIELD COUNTY (WRCB) - Whitfield County has a new county administrator.
County commissioners unanimously chose Mark Gibson as the new Whitfield County Administrator on Tuesday.
Gibson, 36, currently serves as City Manger of Varnell.
The commission set Gibson's salary at $95,000 and will provide him with a car.
"My philosophy is that the commissioners and I will work as a team and do our best together" to help the county solve the issues facing them, Gibson said in a release Tuesday.
Gibson is a graduate of Northwest Whitfield High School. He graduated from Georgia Southern University with a bachelor's degree in justice and a Master's of Public Administration.
Prior to his tenure as the Varnell City Administrator, Gibson served as Administrator of Alma, Georgia, Assistant Administrator of Dalton City Courts. He began his career as a Dalton Police officer.
Gibson and his wife, Cindy, have four children and reside in the Pleasant Grove community.
He will assume his new office within 30 days.
Four people were killed and four others injured in a mass shooting at a Waffle House in Antioch early Sunday. The suspect is still on the run.
