New sex charges against Sequatchie commissioner

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (AP) - A Sequatchie County commissioner already charged with soliciting a teen girl for sex has been indicted in a separate case on two counts of aggravated statutory rape.

District Attorney Steve Strain said a grand jury indicted 34-year-old Barnett "Barney" Slatton on the new charges.

Slatton posted a $10,000 bond and was released late Monday from the county jail in Dunlap. His arraignment is set Friday.

Slatton's telephone is unlisted. His attorney, Lee Davis of Chattanooga, did not return a telephone message seeking comment.

Strain said Tuesday that the new charges involve a "different victim."

Slatton in September was charged with soliciting a 17-year-old girl for sex at a high school football game after police say they monitored text messages he sent her.
