CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Chattanooga is now listed as one of the Top 7 Intelligent Communities in a global competition.

The Intelligent Communities Forum, a think tank on social and economic development in the 21st Century, made the announcement at a conference in Honolulu on Wednesday.

The ICF named Chattanooga to the Smart21 of 2011 last October in South Korea.

Chattanooga was specifically cited for the work it has done with fiber optics network available through EPB.

"The Smart 7 designation helps us position Chattanooga to attract technology-oriented companies," says J. Ed Marston, from the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. "The application process was a team effort, relying on information and innovative programs from a range of governmental departments, non-profit organizations and private companies in Chattanooga. We have  a great story to tell about this community thanks to the hard work so many people have done over many years."

Joining Chattanooga on the list of global communities are: Dublin, Ohio and Riverside California in the United States; Stratford, Ontario and Windsor-Essex, Ontario in Canada; Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Issy-les-Moulineaux in France.

The final announcement of the top Intelligent Community will be announced June 3rd at a conference in New York.
