MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A judge has appointed the public defender's office in Monroe County to represent a woman charged in the robbery-slaying of an election official whose body was found burned in the trunk of his car in rural East Tennessee.

Criminal Court Judge Amy Reedy at a Tuesday arraignment appointed the public defender's office to represent 27-year-old Jessica Kennedy Powers of Sweetwater.

Kennedy Powers is charged in the fatal shooting of 60-year-old Monroe County Election Commission Chairman Jim Miller of Madisonville.

Kennedy Powers is charged with felony murder, aggravated robbery, arson of personal property and abuse of a corpse.

Miller's burned body was found July 17 in his car on a rural road. He was shot in the head.
