CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Despite the snow and cold temperatures, teen gun crime is back on the streets of Chattanooga.
According to a news release emailed to Channel 3 Eyewitness News, police answered the call about a rowdy teen crowd when gun fire erupted. This happened around the 2500 block of East Main Street just after midnight.
The juveniles began to fight when shots rang out. While police tried to fight the person or people who were shooting, a second round of shots were fired. Moments later, police found 18-year-old Santonio Rutledge shot in the knee.
Rutledge's version of the story is that he and his friends were walking around when he felt pain in his leg. When he looked down, he realized he was bleeding and had been shot.
A police spokesperson describes the scene as "chaos." Officers were not able to find the shooter and have no idea who they're looking for at this time.
Rutledge was taken to a local hospital for the gunshot wound to his knee area.
