CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)- Garbage and recyclable pickups have been suspended in Chattanooga until Monday January 17.  Here is a release from Communications Director Richard Beeland:

The City of Chattanooga Department of Public Works continues to place an emphasis on opening and clearing main roads and connector roads throughout the city.  Plow operations on main roads will continue throughout the day and move into secondary roads/subdivisions throughout the remainder of the week.  This afternoon and tonight crews will continue salt, sand and brine operations in preparation for anticipated freezing temperatures overnight.

With the majority of secondary roads still covered with snow and ice and all available city crews on snow duty, crews will not collect household garbage or recycling this weekHousehold garbage and recycling collection will resume on Monday January 17.  (Garbage will be collected on Monday, January 17, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)  Residents are asked to follow normal garbage set out guidelines next week.  If a resident has more household garbage than their container will hold, we ask that the excess be bagged and placed next to the container.  It will be collected by city crews in conjunction with regular garbage collection next week.

Curbside recycling collection will resume normal schedule on January 24.  As soon as the roads are cleared, residents are encouraged to use any of the city's five Recycling Collection Centers to drop off their recyclable material.

Please be patient as your Public Works Department addresses this unusual weather event.
