Chattanooga prepares for weekend winter weather

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Chattanooga public works crews were out Friday trying to prepare for the winter weather expected.  Crews will be out spreading salt and brine Sunday.  Directors say they're expecting something like the weather the Tennessee Valley saw over Christmas weekend.  They used 40  to 45 employees that weekend and say this weather event could call for double.

Friday they were drizzling brine on bridges and overpasses.

Tony Boyd, Assistant Manager of Public Works says, "When they apply the brine, salt and sand what we hope is that traffic picks up and will melt it and turn it into slush and get it off the roads with freezing events it doesn't work like that."

Crews say the trouble spots in Chattanooga are state routes and spots like Ochs Highway, Scenic Highway and Elder Mountain.
