Most teaching licenses lost for sex talk, contact

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - More than half of the Tennessee teachers who lost their teaching licenses last year were involved in inappropriate relationships with students.

Many were using cell phones and texting students to strike up the relationships, reports The Tennessean.

Tennessee Board of Education attorney Rich Hagland says technology is making it easier for teachers to engage in sexually charged communication with students.

In 1 of the 27 cases in which teachers lost licenses in 2010, a Campbell County teacher bought a prepaid cell phone and gave it to the student involved.

The newspaper report says at least 7 of the cases involved inappropriate texting of students by teachers.
