KNOXVILLE (WRCB) - Governor-Elect Bill Haslam's resignation as Knoxville mayor will be effective January 10th.

Wednesday, he delivered his farewell speech and thanked all of those who have served alongside him the past seven years.

"When I took office in 2003, I was hoping I would have the chance to work with some good people, but I ended up having the chance to work with some great people. People who care deeply about our city, people who over time have learned to do more with less to consistently and not lose sight of the vision we have for an even better city. And, I'm very, very grateful," said Haslam.

Haslam will be inaugurated as Tennessee Governor January 15th.

There will be no special election in Knoxville to replace him.

The city council will appoint one of its own as interim mayor.
