310 soldiers to deploy to Iraq

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – More than 300 Tennessee soldiers will leave this week for Iraq.

The Tennessee Army National Guard's 230th Sustainment Brigade, based out of Millington and Chattanooga, will deploy to Iraq as part of Operation New Dawn.

The 310 soldiers will depart from the Chattanooga Airport Saturday, January 8.

The 230th will conduct farewell ceremonies at the Chattanooga Armory on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and the first busses will depart around 10:00 a.m.

The 230th Sustainment Brigade will be responsible for the logistics of fuel, ammunition, medical supplies, repair parts for vehicles in Iraq.

More than 20,000 members of the Tennessee National Guard have been deployed since September 11, 2001 according to the Tennessee Military Department.
