UPDATE 3: Crews battle fire, house is total loss

By WRCB Staff

HAMILTON COUNTY (WRCB) -- Flames destroy an elderly woman's home in the Highway 58 area, Thursday evening .

Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded and arrived on the scene reporting the garage was fully involved with fire, just after 7pm. Once firefighters confirmed no one was inside the house, they conducted an interior attack.

The garage was contained quickly but the fire had already spread through the attic and the rest of the house.

According to Highway 58 VFD Chief Mark Hutchings, several explosions occurred from combustibles inside the house.

One firefighter received minor injuries from flying debris from one of the explosions. Hamilton County EMS transported him to Erlanger Medical Center for further evaluations.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The homeowner was not home at the time but will be staying with family. The house is a total loss and damages estimated at $75,000.
