UPDATE 3: Police catch carjacking suspect in Collegedale

COLLEGEDALE, HAMILTON COUNTY, TN. (WRCB)-- Little Debbie Parkway was closed while Hamilton County Sheriff's units and Collegedale Police searched for a carjacking suspect.

Collegedale Police Chief says an officer spotted a vehicle exiting SunTrust Bank just before 4:00 pm at high rate of speed. When he attempted to stop the car, the driver didn't cooperate.

A short time later, the car stopped on Little Debbie Parkway and a black male fled on foot from the passenger side.

The female driver of the car told police she was carjacked and that the suspect was armed.

Police searched two homes and just before searching the woods, the suspect emerged from them and was arrested without incident.

The female driver later changed her story and could somehow be involved.

The male suspect wasn't armed.

Both have been booked into the Hamilton County Jail. The female is being charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene, felony evading, and felony filling a false report. The male is being charged with felony escape. Further charges are pending.

A spokesperson for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office says county SWAT and K-9 units were also on the scene.

The road is now open.
