CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- Chattanooga Firefighters discovered a body inside a home they responded to Thursday in Lupton City.

The fire started just before 1:00 PM on Arkwright Drive. When Crews arrived, smoke and flames were highly visible from the rear of the home.

The fire was quickly extinguished, but firefighters found the lifeless body of 81 year old Ruby Harrison.  Neighbors tell Eyewitness News they believe the woman had just had hip surgery.

Harrison's son in law says she was something of a mother figure to many in the old "mill village."

Freda Smith says, " I love her very much, and I love her whole family we've shared many things together."

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze.

Damage to the home is estimated to be around $40,000.
