DALTON, WHITFIELD COUNTY (WRCB) – Dalton Police say they have recovered the money lost at a gas station earlier this month.

According to officers, an envelope containing $917 was found at the Dalton Daily Citizen's office.

Investigators say there was a note saying this was the money taken at the gas station.

The money was turned over to police, who say the money will be returned to its rightful owner.

Sharon Herrera lost accidentally dropped an envelope containing $950, which was stolen by an unknown male suspect.

Last week, a Chattanooga dentist came forward after hearing Herrera's story on Channel 3 Eyewitness News and gave her the money to cover Christmas expenses.

Dalton Police say the incident is still under investigation.  The suspect could face felony theft of mislaid property charges.
