Grocery store desired on the Westside

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- For some low-income and elderly folks on Chattanooga's Westside, getting food isn't a quick drive to the supermarket.

It's a long walk.

So folks came together for a march, hoping to change that.

It began near an empty storefront on Grove Street, that was a Dollar General Store.

The marchers headed to the nearest full-service market, more than a mile away.

"If a grocery store wants to come in here, if some kind of small business wants to set up shop on the Westside, that would be fantastic. That is what we want," says Perrin Lance, march organizer.

The marchers bought food to help Angel Food Ministries provide Christmas baskets for needy families.

Carrying it the long walk back, hoping to get someone's attention that a store is needed in their neighborhood.
